Kitich Forest Camp is situated on the upper slopes of the Mathews Mountains in a beautiful forest glade. The camp is set under a forest canopy and overlooks the Ngeng River.
The Mathews forest is an ecological hotspot with rare flora and fauna such as endemic Cycads, the De Brazza Monkey and endangered Wild Dog. A safari holiday in Kenya at Kitich Forest Camp provides a wonderful base from which to discover the hidden treasures of this ancient wilderness.
The montane rainforest covers about 220 000 acres and the flora and fauna exist in a unique micro-climate. The high point in the middle of the range reaches 2 375m (1.47 miles) above sea level, with another higher peak further south. The surrounding lowlands are arid and home to the semi-nomadic Samburu tribes.
Kitich Forest Camp is in a remote location but there is an airstrip close to the camp for fly-in safaris.
There are daily scheduled flights from Nairobi to Kalama and Sassab Airstrip followed by a 2.5 hour road transfer to Kitich Forest Camp. Private air charters to Ngalai Airstrip take only a further 10 mins to get from the airstrip to Kitich Forest Camp.
The Mathews Mountain Range is just east of the busy frontier town of Maralal and may be accessed by road via the town of Wamba (3 hour drive).
There is also a helicopter landing pad at Kitich Forest Camp.
