Within the Laikipia ecosystem, which is fed by the Ewaso Nyiro River, the renowned Lewa Wildlife Conservancy covers 62 000 acres of prime land. The open grasslands are home to at least 70 mammal species and more than 440 types of bird. The conservancy is a protected conservation area and part of a natural wildlife corridor to the north.
Lewa Safari Camp is situated between 3 main towns in this part of Kenya (Meru, Nanyuki and Isiolo) which are accessible by road. There is an airstrip close to the camp and a number of others in this region for fly-in safaris.
