There are no roads on Mfangano Island which suits the relaxed pace of life. Boat trips and walks take you to surrounding attractions on a Kenya holiday safari. Various excursions can be arranged from the camp or you can simply while away your time with a good book in between siestas, sunbathing and dips in the swimming pool.
Mfangano Island Camp offers excellent fishing activities for Tilapia and Nile Perch using a number of boats that are equipped for trawling. Nile Perch is the hot favourite to catch as specimens can grow to enormous sizes. The camp chef will gladly cook your catch for you to have at dinner.
Birdlife is prolific on the island and there is always something to see. Sunbirds, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters and Weavers, Cormorants, Fish Eagles and Pelicans are just some of the birds you can spot - you may also catch a glimpse playful Otters along the shoreline.
Guided tours can be arranged for cultural interaction. The Luo people of Lake Victoria are very friendly and welcoming – their traditional culture is quite different from other tribes in Kenya. They are proud to take visitors around their village and show off the local school, the re-building of which has been sponsored by Mfangano Island Camp.
