A specialty of Sabuk Lodge is camel back safaris. Exploring the bush on the original safari ‘vehicle’ is a memorable experience to enjoy on an East African safari holiday. The one hump camels are surprisingly comfortable. Lead by a local guide travel where no vehicle can and get closer to the wildlife. These excursions can be half day or a full day.
Explore the far reaches of the conservancy while on game drives in specially adapted 4x4 vehicles. The Laikipia Plateau has some of the most scenic landscapes in Africa. The region is also a refuge for more endangered species than anywhere else in East Africa. Look for Black Rhino, Wild Dog and Reticulated Giraffe.
Head down to the River for a refreshing dip. Kids will love clambering over the rocks and exploring, while the rapids offer hours of fun tubing. Even though the river is a muddy brown colour it is safe to swim in.
Meet new people and experience a new culture while staying at Sabuk Lodge during a Kenya safari vacation. Visit the traditional home of a Samburu family or the Laikipak Maasai and learn about their pastoral lifestyle and customs. Visit the local Primary school, meet the pupils and teachers and learn about what an important role education is playing in the community.
The greatest advantage of staying in a private conservancy is the freedom visitors have to explore. Accompanied by an armed guide set out on foot and get a real feel for the African landscape. The local guide will impart interesting information about plants, such as which berries can be used for poison arrows or how to identify bird calls and the behaviour of animals. The walks are tailored to all fitness levels.
