This Reserve in the north of the country that is very arid except along the Ewaso Nyiro River which is the lifeblood of the reserve. The reserve was made famous as one of the places where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous by the novel Born Free. The River is home to many Hippo and Crocodile and Buffalo and herds of Elephants are found on its banks. The region is also home to over 350 species of birds, including the Somali Ostrich.
Samburu Intrepids is a 6 hour drive from the capital Nairobi. The journey is 345 kilometres long and passes through the settler towns of Nanyuki and Timau.
Guests staying at Samburu Intrepids will fly into the Samburu airstrip which is located in the Buffalo Springs National Reserve which is about a 20 minute drive away from the camp. There are twice daily scheduled flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
