If you are wishing to spend a day or two in Nairobi, there are a number of interesting places for you to visit. These are best booked in advance, with a Siyabona Consultant so that you don't have to worry about trying to make arrangements on the ground when you get there. These are the most popular Nairobi attractions to visit.
The museum houses an extensive ornithological collection representing most of Kenya's thousand odd species of birds. The Geology Gallery contains a great deal of interesting information on plate tectonics and the life cycle of volcanoes, which is particularly relevant to the Rift Valley regions.
The Gallery of Contemporary East Africa Art is an exhibition area for Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan artists to display their artwork. The Prehistoric Gallery houses the palaeontology exhibits, focussing in particular on the story of human evolution.
There are several Masai markets in Nairobi. They range from the upmarket curio stores that tend to be located in the hotels and safe tourist areas. The more traditional and cheaper markets where you can bargain on the prices are worth a visit but only accompanied by an experienced guide.
The story of Karen Blixen was made famous in the film 'Out of Africa'. The Karen Blixen Museum is located in the house where Karen Christence Blixen-Finecke lived from 1914-1931. It is a beautiful old colonial house that along with the gardens have been restored to their former glory. Learn more about the Karen Blixen Museum
The Giraffe Manor built by Sir David Duncan, is situated on 120 acres of land a few kilometres outside Nairobi. In 1974 Jock Leslie-Melville and his wife Betty bought the Manor. The couple moved five baby endangered Rothschild Giraffe onto the property where they successfully reared them.
The original giraffes have subsequently had their own offspring that now live on the property. After Jock's death Betty decided to open the house to visitors. Guests can feed and photograph the tame Giraffe and warthogs that wander around the Manor gardens.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is located in Nairobi National Park. This is where Daphne Sheldrick, the wife of the late David Sheldrick, continues his work raising orphan elephants that have been brought to her for saving from all over the country.
It is a truly incredible experience seeing how this team of people dedicate their lives to ensuring the survival of these animals and their successful reintroduction into the wild at Tsavo National Park. In addition to the elephants, Daphne also re-habilitates the odd zebra and rhino that have been orphaned and need caring for.

Virtually within earshot of downtown Nairobi, the 113km2 area covered by Nairobi National Park consists primarily of unspoilt plains and woodland. Approximately 80 species of large mammals - excluding elephants - make this region their home.
There is a surprisingly high concentration of animals in the park despite the intrusion of aircraft flying low overhead and tourist mini-buses. Should guests not be able to get to one of the other Kenyan parks, an effort should be made to ensure that they visit this one so that they at least get an idea of what a Kenyan safari is all about and hopefully see some interesting animal interaction.
