Accommodation: Traditional riverside bungalows and a private camp
Activities: Game drives, walking safaris, birding, bush meals and picnics
Highlights: Game viewing and walking at the beautiful Galana River
Destination: Galana River, Tsavo East National Park, Kenya
This Kenya safari camp is built on the southern bank of the river under shady Doum Palms. The inviting guest areas look out across the water to the Yatta Plateau which is an ancient fossilised lava flow - the world's oldest and longest. At the end of the day in a secret spot by the river you can watch the sun setting over Mount Kilimanjaro while enjoying canapés and chilled cocktails.
The camp is designed to integrate with the natural environment and features natural woods and earthy tones in the décor. The Galana River is a magnet for wildlife and you can watch the parade without having to leave the camp. All guest areas have an uninterrupted view of the water, so you can also savour delicious meals while keeping a look out for game.
A bush breakfast after a morning walk or game drive is a highlight, but you can also have a superb picnic at the end of a half-day drive. A stay of 3 nights is recommended to fully explore the richness and diversity of Tsavo East National Park where Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Cheetah and Masai Giraffe roam accompanied by a great supporting cast of African wildlife.
