Karen Blixen Camp is located in the Mara North Conservancy, one of the best game viewing areas of the Masai Mara. The land is managed for tourism and the conservation of wildlife in conjunction with the local Maasai communities. Karen Blixen Camp has a great position opposite one of the easiest access points to the Mara River and throughout the day wildlife comes to drink at the river at this point.
The Mara North Conservancy is bordered by the Oloololo Escarpment and has lush plains that are home to Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra and Thompson’s Gazelle. Of course the annual Wildebeest migration passes through the region. It is also known as a refuge for Big Cats with five prides of Lion, several Cheetah and Leopards found in the conservancy.
Guests can fly to Karen Blixen Camp from Nairobi, Mombasa, Samburu, Naivasha and Lewa Downs on scheduled flights or arrange for a private chartered flight. The planes land at Shikar Airstrip which is about a 40 minute drive from the camp.
The journey to Karen Blixen Camp from Nairobi takes about 5 hours in the dry season and 7 hours in the wet season.
